About

The Photographer Your Friends Wish They Had Found

I am Matthias Friel, and I have been photographing weddings in Germany since 2010. More than two hundred couples have trusted me with their day, and many of them flew in from other countries to marry here — in castles, grand hotels and cities their guests could not stop photographing themselves.

My path to weddings was not the usual one. I trained in visual effects and animation in Munich and spent years in motion design and 3D before the camera pulled me toward real stories. That background still shapes everything I shoot: how I read light, how I compose a frame, how a gallery flows like a film.

I live and work in the Spreewald, a landscape of forest canals southeast of Berlin that most visitors have never heard of and none forget. From here I photograph weddings across Germany and Europe.

One more thing that matters to many of my couples: I am a Christian, and churches are home ground for me. I know the rhythm of a service, I coordinate with the pastor or priest beforehand, and my cameras are completely silent — nothing interrupts the sacred moments. From village chapels to Hamburg's Michel, one of Germany's great baroque churches, I move through sacred spaces with the respect they deserve.
